Background Story

A renowned pyromancer roaming the lands, Lina Inverse originally joined the Sentinel for monetary purposes. However, weeks turned into months, and fighting alongside the many holy warriors with fearless souls inspired her with the responsibility of protecting the sanctity of the World Tree. With her devastating abilities to summon vaporizing flames, she wreaks havoc among the enemy ranks. In dire situations, she would imbue herself with an ultimate fervor, or even call forth a massive beam of lightning which is said to instantly slay any single foe. A most feared enemy of the Scourge, a most unswerving defender of the Sentinel.

Information

Lina Inverse has what is probably the strongest Single-target chain nuke Combo in the game, virtually able to kill almost any hero with ease during the early-mid game. In addition, Light Strike Array and Dragon Slave have large AOE damage, allowing her to push lanes easily. Laguna Blade is, along with Finger of Death, the highest single target damage nuke in the game. While she does have problems with survivability and mobility, these can be negated somewhat with some careful planning. As such, she is a dedicated ganker with decent pushing abilities and often serves as the team's warder.

Lane Control and Harassing

Lina Inverse has strong lane control due to her powerful nuke combo, and can solo a lane without much difficulty. However, she is mostly used in a double lane, in order to take full advantage of her nuking power - her nukes take some practice to use effectively. She is often laned with another stunner, such as Sand King, allowing for a "Double Stun", in which she takes advantage of her ally's stun to land a perfect Light Strike Array, followed with a Dragon Slave, and/or Laguna Blade. In addition, Dragon Slave has huge range and is fairly acceptable as far as its mana cost goes, and allows Lina to harass and farm effectively in a lane with minimal risk.

Role in the Team

Lina Inverse is one of the strongest gankers in the game due to her high-damage chain nuke combo. A Lina player should focus on ganking the enemy team to allow a team's carry to farm up. As Lina is constantly moving around ganking, she is often the team warder. In addition, she is a decent pusher due to her large AoE damage.

Using Dragon Slave

Dragon Slave has huge range- almost 1000 units. As such, it should rarely be aimed by clicking directly on the target, especially when harassing or using it as the final hit on a dying enemy. Instead, click on the ground in front of the target, allowing Lina to harass with minimal risk to herself. When using Dragon Slave, try to aim it such that creeps with low Hit Points are hit by it as well, maximising it's use. Dragon Slave should be aimed by clicking on a target only when the target is directly in front of Lina- for example, a Queen of Pain which has Blinked in front of you. Otherwise, you may put yourself in danger if Lina attempts to chase a target past enemy creeps or towers to get into range to cast Dragon Slave.

Using Light Strike Array

Light Strike array is what makes Lina deadly in a Double lane- a powerful AoE nuke with an AoE Stun. As such, Light Strike Array is not an easy skill to use. Light Strike Array has a long casting animation, which means that unless your target is not moving, it will probably miss. Light Strike Array should instead be aimed at where the target is estimated to be after the casting animation. Try to make sure that the edge of Light Strike Array covers the target's current position, so that the target will be hit even if he does not move. Alternatively, buying Eul's Scepter of Divinity is sometimes done to allow a perfect Light Strike Array- Cyclone the target and then cast Light Strike Array to allow for a perfect Light Strike Array-Dragon Slave-Laguna Blade Chain nuke combo. Always attempt to try to stun multiple enemies with Light Strike Array, especially during a team fight.

Using Laguna Blade

Laguna Blade deals immense damage. As such, it definitely should not be used to kill an enemy with ~50 Hit Points left- a huge waste. Instead, use it to take down the first focus-fire target during a team fight. As it has low cooldown, you should try to look for a gank target everytime the cooldown finishes.

Team Fights

Lina Inverse is not a carry nor a tank, and as such should definitely not be the one initiating a full-blown team fight (It is possible with Light Strike Array, but extremely dangerous due to her low Hit Points). Instead, she should stay back and fire Dragon Slaves with the aim to hit the entire enemy team, and time her Light Strike Arrays to coincide with friendly stuns, and to stop enemies from chanelling spells. Note that with Ultimate activated, her DPS is fairly significant, and as such try to get in a few hits in-between spell cooldowns. Laguna Blade should be used on the first focus-fire target (usually the most dangerous), allowing the team to take down the target quickly so they can turn their attention to the rest of the enemy team.
