Magic Immunity refers to a state of being unaffected by most spells. A Magic Immune unit will not take Magical damage, and is untargettable by most basic skills. Auras will still affect Magic Immune units.

Bypassing Magic Immunity

Generally, no spells (including some allied spells) can affect Magic Immune units except Ultimates, due to an engine setting. However, if an Ultimate skill is triggered and consists of various dummy non-ultimate spells, the Magic Immunity is not bypassed. A typical example is Crystal Maiden's Freezing Field, in which the skill itself is an ultimate, while the novas are triggered non-ultimate skills.

Ultimates do not completely circumvent magic immunity, as magic immune units will never take any Magical damage, which is almost always the damage type used. Magic Immune units may be targeted by Ultimates like any other unit, and all other effects still apply, including stun, silence, and slow. So in the case of Beastmaster's Primal Roar, magic immune units can be targeted, stunned, and slowed, but no damage will be dealt to them. Ultimates that solely deal damage (e.g. Lina's Laguna Blade) are therefore completely wasted on Magic Immune targets, as the spell will still cast on the unit but deal absolutely no damage with no side effects. One such case that has been the cause of confusion in the past is Bloodseeker's Rupture, which can be cast on Magic Immune units and will display the bleeding animation, but without dealing any damage.

Ultimates that deal non-magical damage will deal damage to Magic Immune targets, but these cases are rare. The most notable of these is Doom Bringer's Doom, which deals Universal type damage. Another example is Earthshaker's Echo Slam, the primary wave of which also deals Universal damage.

Spells that deal solely physical damage and do not require a specific target, or are triggered and deal solely physical damage, will still damage Magic Immune units. Two examples of this are Leshrac's Diabolic Edict and Tiny's Toss.

Arguably the best way to deal with Magic Immunity is to wait out the effects, as both the Black King Bar and Naix's Rage last relatively short periods of time compared to their cooldowns. Repel, on the other hand, has a duration just as long as its cooldown, and is best countered with Purge from either Gorgon or a Diffusal Blade, which will remove the buff and with it the Magic Immunity.
