(Redirected from IAS)

Attack Speed is the rate at which a hero attacks per second. Often, this term is referred to as IAS, which is short for Increased Attack Speed. Increasing a hero's attack speed reduces the time it takes to kill an enemy hero and increases the amount of damage your hero deals per second. See DPS for more information on Damage Per Second.

Notes on Attack Speed

  • Unlike attack cooldown, IAS is measured in percentage rather than numbers. Having +N% increased attack speed means your attack cooldown is reduced by N% (see Calculation for more information).
  • Each point in Agility grants +1% attack speed. There are items adding raw attack speed too, eg. Gloves of Haste, Oblivion Staff, and Hyperstone.
  • Attack Speed bonuses stack linearly. All bonuses are added together at once and applied. This means that the more attack speed bonuses you get, the less effective they are.
  • Do note that there are caps to IAS at 400% (4) and -80% (-0.8) respectively. Any more than 4 or less than -0.8 will act as 4 or -0.8.

Calculation

The Attack Speed per game second of a unit can be calculated by (1+IAS)/(BAT), where BAT is the hero's Base Attack Time. Also, less often used is Game Seconds per Attack, which is calculated by (BAT)/(1+IAS).
